Try books by Neil Gaiman
The graphic novel series Y: The Last Man
The first Harry Potter book
Some Stephen King, like The Dead Zone and Firestarter
The Garth Nix Abhorsen Trilogy mentioned by the first poster is a great series, but it is fantasy. It isn't unusual for that world.

The House of Leaves. It's in horror, it is written in a unique style and is very, very weird. It's about people who live in a house that is bigger on the inside then it looks on the outside, a man who does a movie on it, and the man who discovers the script.

I would try "Mythago Wood" by Robert Holdstock. I can recommend the whole series, it doesn't get much weirder than this.
