I am an American, who's parents are: Mother,Italian, Father,German. If you are inquiring in regards to alcoholic behavior and it's relation to cultural background, there are so many different studies. The cause of substance abuse(alcohol) and dependence is complex. Most often it is a combination of;biological, psychological and social factors that vary for each person.Developing a tolerance, needing increasing amounts of alcohol to gain the desired effect, or experiencing a diminished effect when using the same amount. For example, a person may have to drink an entire 6-pack to get the same effect formerly experienced after drinking one or two beers.Using alcohol for longer periods of time and in greater quantities.Experiencing withdrawal symptoms, when a person tries to stop using alcohol.Continuing to use alcohol, even if the ongoing problems of physical and psychological are likely to be made worse when using alcohol. Each person is different concerning alcohol dependence. One person may drink socially for years, before abusing alcohol. Others may use alcohol for less than a year, and might become addicted. A formula of x numbers of drinks a day is not an equation for determining alcoholism.

Not a liter but a tad bit everyday.. Like martini's... Used to work with a guy that was all about them. A bottle of vodka or anything to one person is never a good thing. When I was an irresponsible young man I drank roughly half a bottle.. about a week after having surgery while prescribed to PK's.. Kicked my a** and sent me back to the hospital. Woke up with a catheter in me.

Alcoholism is NOT determined by number of drinks per day as people vary significantly in how they are affected by alcohol. Instead, if the consumption of alcohol interferes with your daily life, relationships, work, etc. then, regardless of how much you consume, you are an alcoholic.

I'm 24 and American...
It's not really a matter of quantity, per say. When one drinks by him or her self just because they want to, when one hides his or her drinking from others, when one doesn't care about anything but drinking, when one drinks at work or on "the clock" .... that's when one is an alcoholic.

I think if you have to have one drink per day you are an alcoholic. If you can't go one day without one, then you have a dependency. US.

Alcoholism is a disease. If you are "dependent" on alcohol, you are an alcoholic. The number of drinks has nothing to do with it.
