I'm sure every vet is different. Here are some questions, make sure you have a vet that knows about ferrets. There are alot out their that treat them like cats. Kits (baby ferrets) purchased from private breeders don't always come neutred and descented. Should your ferret be fixed? Unless he or she is used for breeding, the answer is a definite YES. Why? Is your ferret a female? Female ferrets spaying can be a matter of life or death. How old is your ferret? Some experts recommend that you wait until your ferret is six months old before you have it fixed. They think that early neutering and spaying-around six weeks of age can lead to health problems later in a ferrets life. Good luck.

A friend of mine has about 26 ferrets and it costs her about £50 to have a male vasectomised. She doesn't have tham castrated cos the females need mounting to bring them off heat so uses a vasectomised male for the job. It's quite an invasive op so make sure your vet knows their stuff. She doesn't get the females speyed as that would cost too much. But if you only have a male or males, castration is ok and slightly cheaper.
