Just wondering how it is that things become "cool" and popular.

Especially when it's something like getting in trouble, going to jail, vandalism, hatred, etc.?

When I was in high school, it was the "cool thing to do" if you went to juvy. It was absolutely retarded.

It depends upon the publicity and the people who are associated with the actions. For example: LaRaza/MeCHA teaches that the illegal or otherwise unacceptable actions of their children are not juvenile delinquency but are revolutionary. Therefore, children who refuse to speak English in School and who thwart our laws would most likely be considered "cool" by those groups because they are enforcing or promoting that anti-american doctrine. Also, when something that is otherwise unacceptable is promoted, those who join are considered "cool" because it is a way to bring more people into non-compliance or into the "fold".
