You bet!! Anything that is used in excess to hide, or cover up unwanted feelings or thoughts, and becomes an obsession, where you feel like you can't live without it, is an addiction! Ask Oprah Winfrey about this. She lived through a serious addiction to food, and still has to keep herself in check about it.

I think food can be addictive. But not in the same way as cocaine or other drugs. Those form chemical dependencies in your body. I think most food addictions are really an addiction to the act of eating. It doesn't matter what kind of food it is, just that you eat it. It's really hard to determine whether it's an addiction or strong habit with the eating. If you plan your day around eating, I think it has reached the point of addiction.

It is not an addiction it is a disorder. Sometimes
it is called Compulsive Eating Disorder. People
who suffer from CED can't help themselves. They eat
because they are bored, angry, lonely, or sad and
they use food to make themselves feel better. After they finish eating they get angry for caving into
food and eat some more. It is a vicious circle and
very hard to break. But it can be done. I speak
from experience. I suffer from CED but I managed to
break that cycle.

It can be, just depends on what is being eatten. Chocolate has caffeine, some fast foods have a taste which we crave. They say that soft drinks are addictive because of the carbonated water.
Moderation is the key.

YES!! I have this problem! I am always craving food, even if i am full to the point of stomach pains I still want to munch on something. That and i have a very very sweet tooth I always need something sweet at night time! I don't know why i do it, but i just have to eat!!

Plus you know the saying "You eat because your depressed and your depressed because you eat." It is a never ending horrible cycle!!

If you don't have a healthy addiction to food, you'll die of starvation. Unlike with coke or alcohol, you can't kick the habit, you can only manage it with smart food choices and moderation.
