You could try a specific theme. Like a book party, people bring their favorite children's book.

sure you can! I know people who've had a baby shower for every baby they've had. It's a chance for you and those you love and care about to celebrate the new life soon to be coming in to the world. Also, you could always use more baby wash, onesies, bibs and so on. And even if someone isn't already throwing you a shower, you can always find someone to help you plan one. Baby showers are fun, and I seriously doubt anyone would criticise you for it.

I say YES! Unless the new child is the same sex, and born in the same season, most of the clothing wont be re-usable from the previous child anyway. I think every baby deserves to be celebrated, and there will always be things that you need, even if its your 4th baby! I think its totally bogus that some people think of it as "taboo" to have a baby shower for any baby besides the first. Helloooooo! Each child is an individual. Stuff wears out, runs out, breaks, etc. I happily attend and buy gifts for every baby shower I go to, no matter how many children they have.

It's certainly becoming more common to have a second shower. Maybe I'm just a b*tch, but if someone is having one for a second child and their first child is still young, I usually come up with a reason not to attend, or just bring something small like diapers. For a first baby I'm more willing to spend a lot on a big gift. I like a newer trend that I'm seeing for the second child, where women will have a get together with their girlfriends and specify that no gifts are to be brought, then I just send something after the baby is born.

Only if had been a long time between the two children. If you just had a shower in the last couple of years people will think its tacky. One option would be to have a before the baby gets here party. That way you can invite your friends and their husbands for a nice get-together. That way it doesn't seem like you are just looking for presents.

i think everybody should have a baby shower for every pregnancy. baby showers is a celebration of the beginning of a human being. it's really not about the gifts (just like christmas isn't really about the gifts). it should be about getting the people you love together and be happy about the newcomer of the family (and pretty baby clothes!).

Showers for the second, third...or tenth baby...
It's wonderful to hold showers for second and third babies - they deserve special recognition too! Parents may appreciate some new clothes for baby, particularly if they are having a different gender child from their other(s). Gifts of time are also very welcome! Moms of newborns will certainly appreciate a gift of babysitting, your assistance with household chores, or some yummy home-cooked meals brought to her house. It's also a nice idea to give something to the parents for themselves -- maybe a gift certificate for dinner at a restaurant or tickets to a movie (with babysitting provided, of course!), or items mom can use to pamper herself (body lotion, pretty soaps, candles, or maybe even a good book of short stories.

That depends on how long ago it has been since you had your last baby. If it is 5 or more years apart then it is fine. Also no one should have a babyshower for themselves, a friend or relative should offer to host one for the expectant mother. Another exception would be if you were remarried and it is your first child with your new husband.
