I love the song Far Away by Nickelback and I just wanted some other opinions about what it means because I'm doing a song analysis of it for a school project. Any help would be appreciated.

This song is about how you'll always love that certain someone no matter what. Through fights, and bad times, and how sometimes you can take for granted what you have. Sometimes it takes the threat of death to realize how much you truly love someone.
According to Nickelback's lead singer Chad Kroeger, this is their very first song about being in love. Their other songs, like "How You Remind Me" and "Because Of You" are only ABOUT love; this song is about being IN love.

it's about the lead singer and his brother(whose also in the band) mother going into a mental institution and fearing that she'll never get out,the boys decide to break her out with pick axes,in the middle of the night ,in the middle of a snow storm with nothing but their christmas socks,given to them last christmas. They get caught and they get sent to jail 'far away'

if you had provided a link i would have been able to see it. but to me, i think the song is about an old love. here are some of the lyrics that make me think that (not in order) "who was i to make you wait" "just one chance, just one breath just incase theres just one left, you know you know, I love you, I have loved you all along, and i miss you, have been far away for way to long, i keep dreaming youll be with me and youll never go, stop breathing if i dont see you anymore" "on my knees i will ask, last chance for one last dance" "id give it all, id give for us, give anything but i wont give up" "i wanted to see you stay, cause i needed to hear you say, i love you, i have loved you all along and i forgive you for being away for far too long, so keep breathing cause im not leaving hold onto me and never let go" that last verse that i just gave you was the part that hes saying he wishes that she could say to him.
