Hi Mareko..you need not worry because most of the major shopping malls are open throughout CNY as they are not facing shortage of staffs. You may take this opportunity to shop as much as you want in this sales period. A word of cautious though, you could feel yourself in a place full of foreigners such as Vietnamese, Banglas, Myanmars or Indons wandering around the parks! But they meant no harm, they too would take the chance to visit Kuala Lumpur during this holiday.
By the way, during this holiday period there's no better time to have a casual drive in and around KL as most of the people have left for their hometown.

I dont think malls will close for Chinese New Year, but as for restaurants...chinese ones especially, they will close from Chinese New Year Eve till 2nd-4th day of Chinese New Year. As for destinations in KL, u hv to check it yrself because chinese owners will likely be close but non-chinese ones will be open :)

Usually malls will be busy with locals until the 17th Feb. On the 18th Feb onward, these mall are usually open too, but pack with foreign worker especially from Indonesia, Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladeshi, Vietnamese and Indian. It's not a good sight on these area especially on 18th, 19th, and 20th.
21st Feb will be better for shopping cause these guy may start work already.
