Best/Worst Olympic moment or achievement of all time.?

In your minds, what do you think is the greatest Olympic moment or achievement of all time? If i had to pick some, they would be FloJo's taking over of the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, Korea, the 1992 Dream Team destroying the rest of the world, the 1996 USA Women's Team and their undefeated ride, and the '96 Magnificent Seven gymnastics team (Shannon Miller, Dominique Dawes, Dominique Moceanu, Amanda Borden, Amy Chow, Kerri Strug, and Jaycie Phelps), captivating the world with their style, flair, grace, and willingness to stick it out for one another.

The worst moment did not come on the Olympic stage, but rather it ws tragic. Someone set off a bomb at Olympic Park in Atlanta and killed Alice Hawthorne, a woman will never get the chance to see her kids again.

Best moment - Jesse Owens, a black American, going to Berlin, Germany fot the 1936 games during the rise of their Aryan supremacy, and winning 4 gold medals in track & field. Hitler refused to shake his hand.

This feat was not equaled until the 1984 games in Los Angeles where Lewis also won golds in the 100m dash, the 200m dash, the long jump, and the 4 x 100 realy. However, these games were not attended by the Soviet Union and 15 other Eastern Bloc nations due to the U.S. boycott of the 1980 Olympics in Moscow.

The Best Olympic moments have to be US defeating Russia in the 1980 Winter Olympics. Jesse Owens winning 4 gold medals in 1936 Olympic games in Germany. Swiss women's marathon runner refusing to quit and finally finishing the race hours after everyone else did. She collapsed after crossing the finish line.

The woprt was in 1972. The games were marred by a terrorist act known as the Munich massacre. On 5 September Palestinian terrorists from the Black September terrorist group held 9 Israeli athletes hostage and killed 2 other athletes in their apartment. A subsequent siege of the building in the Olympic village lasted for almost 18 hours. During a failed rescue attempt at the military airport of Fürstenfeldbruck all the Israeli hostages were massacred by their captors and all but three of the terrorists were killed. All Olympic events were briefly suspended but Avery Brundage, the International Olympic Committee president, decided that "the Games must go on" and they were continued a day later. The events of the Munich massacre were chronicled in the Oscar-winning documentary, One Day in September, and a fictional account of the aftermath was dramatized in Steven Spielberg's 2005 film Munich. The massacre led Germany to realize the inadequacy of its approach to combat terror, and create the elite counter-terrorist unit GSG 9 to address future incidents. It also led Israel to launch an aggressive counterterrorism campaign known as Operation Wrath of God. The attack prompted heightened security at future Olympics, beginning with the 1976 Winter Olympics, and increased at the 2002 Winter Olympics due to the September 11, 2001 attacks

Best Independent: Rulon Gardener beating Karelin. It was amazing, just like the Miracle on Ice without the politics. I was so stunned I could not celebrate
Best Team: The Miracle on Ice. I was born in 1985 and finally had the privilege of watching it in 2005 for the 25th anniversary and I had goosebumps. I cannot imagine watching it in 1980.
Worst Moment: I chose to focus on sports moments and it would be the 2004 Mens Basketball "Dream" Team. Their boorish actions off the court, not signing autographs, not taking it seriously, etc. made their loss that much worse and embarrassing. It is one thing to lose playing hard, it is another to lose because they never deserved to be there in the first place.

The worst had to be the whole Dan O'brien and Dave Johnson who will win the gold in the decathalon back in 92..that commercial was everywhere....and O'Brien didnt even qualify...what a joke

The best moment was in cross-country skiing at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, the Italians defeat Norway for the gold. It was the greatest relay race ever.

I loved Mary Lou Retton a lot. yet you understand, 2004 Athens... those 2 Greek boys doing that ideal 3 metre synchronized springboard. It grow to be beautiful. They were underdogs and no man or woman anticipated them to even come on the fringe of a bronze. yet at the same time as they did that dive, they knew they'd the gold before the judges even presented. and how they jumped and danced around the pool... i'm not Greek, yet i grow to be jumping up and down and cheering in the front of the television. It grow to be extremely magnificent.
