For a project I've got to make a model trench, and I'm trying to include some puddles. What should I use to make a clear puddle that goes solid when dry?

Resin. Or perhaps glue (if you have some laying around). Resin is your best choice and should be available from a hobby shop, particularly if they have model trains. Glue is usually pretty available around the house and you wouldn't have to buy anything, but I would test out the glue first to see how it dries. Just a suggestion.
