I live in Oregon and yes, you can pay for them yourself at the imaging center in Portland. :) They have 3D and 4D. Let me get the address for you....

Oh, and its not unsafe to get ONE.

I live in Mass and my 3D/4D ultrasound was covered by my insurance (I have Blue Cross Blue Shield). I felt safer having it done at my OB/Gyn's office than at some random place I found online, especially since there can be some dangers if they are done by someone who isn't properly trained. For instance, some places conduct the ultrasound for over an hour, trying to get a good image. It is recommended that the sessions last no longer than half an hour. Before you go to any place other than your doctor's, I suggest you bring up the topic with him/her. It's always better to be safe than sorry.
I had mine at 19 weeks, and since he was facing my back, we got a nice profile view of him. He was skinny and def. had his father's forehead, but he's still developing so we couldn't tell who he resembled most.

When you go to a office to have your ultrasound done they will be able to do it there. They cost about 300.00 or more. No, insurance doesn't pay for it.

You also want to wait til the baby has more fat on the body to get a good picture. The position of the baby is important too. If the baby is close to the wall of the uterus w/o having a pocket of fluid between then the tech will not be able to get a pic.

You can google 3D ultrasound and find a location that does them, however I would wait til further alond because you wonlt be able to see much. I live in Atlanta and we have a place called babys first iamges and they have diffrent packages you can get. We are getting one next month at 30 weeks pregnant and we only paid $99 for a 15 minute ultrasound. If you have one at a doctors office it will cost $300-$600...way too expensive

I've never heard of an insurance company covering 3d or 4d ultrasounds- everyone i know has just had to pay out of pocket- they arent a necessity- the insurance company see's it as nothing different than if you were to take your newborn to JcPenney and have pictures taken.

I live in Idaho, my OB/GYN offered 3D for $200 for a 20 minute session. They don't do the 3D ultrasounds until much farther in pregnancy though--I think they recommend that you're past 28 weeks--because the earlier images tend to freak people out a little because the babies don't have any fat and they look very alien.

Yes you can. Some states require you have your doctor's permission due to the possibility of health effects on the baby, although 99.9% of research shows that sonograms and ultrasounds have no effect on babies at any state of development. I would still think it unwise to get one every day though. Anyway, you can get them at many commercial stores who do nothing but 3D ultras all day for those who want to pay. You can pay cash even! 4D ultrasounds..... what are those, height, length, depth, and ... TIME?

Call 1800-Sonogram they can give you a location near you. Yes, you can pay for them yourself. I think they start around $99 and go up to a alot of money. However, I have read its best to have it done around 28 weeks you are suppose to be able to see the facial features better. Best wishes!

They're not unsafe!!! Go ahead and get one if you want one! I think you're wise to get one around the 20 week mark that way the baby won't be too big or too small. You'll be able to see so much detail and even who the baby takes after!!! It's a nice way to get a peek inside.
I hope you're able to find one and get it done for a reasonalble amount of money. They can get pretty expensive and you will have to pay for it your self.
Good luck!
