A good read is for example dan browns "divinci code", the language is basic and easy. Good literature has far more depth Gabriel Garcia Marquez is an excellent writer, the language is literarly beautiful.
but to be honest its always down to the individual... what i might think is c.rap others might think is genius. depends on your own experience.

Great literature you should be able to enjoy at different levels. First of all it should be a good read. Next to that it should change you in some way -- it should teach you to look at the world or at people in a way that you could not do before. It should give you insights in human nature. It should give you something to think about, so that you remember the book for a long time. It should be perfect in composition and style. And it should be a good read (or did I mention that already?)

Any opinion on this topic can only be subjective and so I believe there is no 'right' or 'wrong' answer. However, if the entries for literature prizes are any guide, then 'literature', is usually dense, obscure, difficult, and full of allusion. A 'good read' defines it self; popular without being populist, unputdownable, easy to read, and almost never wins prizes.or is on any exam. syllabus. You can guess what I read, probably!

The writing.
The novel Chocolate is a good example of good literature but I didn't rate the storyline very high.

Comparison: Gone With The Wind (A deliciously good read and a terrific story) versus, East of Eden, a masterpiece of elegant prose, enthralling character study, and seamless from start to finish. However, if you happen to use these words on some paper you may be writing, your teacher will immediately know YOU didn't write them. Trust me on this one.

You can identify great literature by the waste of paper at the front given over to the pontifications of individuals who had nothing to do with it's creation.

I would say a good read just needs to be entertaining, not necessarily well-written and innovating. Great literature should be interesting, enlightening, thought-provoking, and original. That's just my opinion. :)
