No, 6 is too many. Unlike certain other sharks (balas, for example), RTSs are not schoolers; in fact, they are highly territorial and aggressive with other RTSs.
The maximum number of RTSs you could put in a 50 gallon is two. Even that's a little much, but if you have lots of plants and rocks to break up sightlines, and few other fish, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Red tailed sharks are extremely aggressive with others when they mature. They can get pretty big also and not always at the same rate. They are bottom feeders so you need a good size tank and they need lots of space to hide. My 2 spend 95% of the day hiding in the ceramic houses in their tank. I would get the big tank and some other types of semi aggressive fish to go in with it/them. I have African Cicalids. Good Luck :)

They will physically fit in the tank fine. They're extremely slow growers. I have 1.5 year olds that are only 2-2.5 inches. At around 14cm at adult age, they're taking up 33-36 inches of space. Many breeds of red fin shark don't even get that big.
Many varieties of red fin shark are very nippy with their own species and anything that looks like a shark though. Most people prefer to only get one single red fin shark. Small communites of them don't work out all that often. You would be best putting one in with another diverse species that they'll be less likely to antagonize.

Actually, it's not a good idea to keep more than one red tail shark together. You may find that one of the red tail sharks will become the "dominant" one and be aggressive towards others.
You may want to research other types of fish to go with a red-tail, but here is more information on red-tail sharks: http://www.fishlore.com/Profiles-RedTailShark.htm

The general rule is 1 inch of fish per gallon of water. Check out this site it says one will eventually need a 50 gallon tank.

it depends on how big they are. The rule of thumb is one inch of fish for every gallon of water. So as long as none of them are over eight inches long you will be ok.

If you have 6 then they will be fine together as long as you do not have houses or plants for them to establish territory. If they start making territories then they will fight pretty much to the death for them.
