I'm 18 weeks, 1 day and today at my pelvic exam (PAP Smear) they said I bled and gave me a pad. They then said I'd spot for 24 hours...I'm upset, has this happened to you?

During pregnancy increased blood flow around the uterus and cervix. Anything that irritates the cervix is likely to cause spotting or bleeding and this is nothing to worry about. It's common. Sex and transvaginal ultrasounds (the internal ones) can also cause spotting or bleeding.

Just take it easy for a few days and avoid activities that will irritate the cervix further.

Congrats to you on your pregnancy :)

Yes, I bled after my paps, all of them. It's a very sensitive area to be stabbing around in.
I would say that women should have a pap every year. That way I'd already had mine and could refuse one when I went for my pelvic exam during my pregnancy. I also turned down the GC/chlamydia because I'd had that done, too with the pap. I simply didn't feel comfortable with the idea of swabbing and poking while I'm pregnant.

Yes, this is normal. Don't be upset, I went through that several time during my pregnancies. It is the same as having rough sex and you bleed when you're not on your period. So keep in mind this is normal and it may happen in the future. Just because your bleeding now, doesn't mean it will happen the entire 24 hours. It shouldn't be a heavy flow....it should only be light.

Yep. It sure did. And, believe it or not it's a healthy sign. It means that your cervix is paying attention and the increased blood flow to the area makes it prone to bleed slightly. It also happened to me a few times when my husband and I had sex. No worries!

*Of course, if you're really scared just call your OB back and tell the nurse. As long as it's pinkish and spotty, and it goes away in the next day or so, it should be okay.

Hell No ! It took me two years and a fortune in fertility treatment to get pregnant and if I had ever had ANY bleeding I would have found a doctor who took it seriously no matter what it took ! I may be over reacting but any bleeding in pregnancy is a cause for alarm in my oppinion. But I'm just a woman who struggled very hard to have a baby. I'm glad to say my daughter is 18 now and very healthy. Good Luck !

Depends on how much you are bleeding. If you are filling up a pad other than spotting, then I would contact your doctor. It is normal to spot after a pelvic but full blown bleeding is not. Get your rest and take it easy for you and your baby for now. Remember to always contact your Dr. for any questions regarding you and your babys' health. Good luck Hon!!

I had 2 paps in the very beginning of my pregnancy. I am wondering why they are doing it again at 18 weeks. That doesn't make any sense. I'd contact another doctor if you are worried.

Why did they do a pap while you were pregnant? My doctor never touched me until I was 38 weeks. Then he checked to see if I was dilated. He just listened for the heartbeat every 4 weeks in the beginning.

I think that you must ask your doc for further feedback in this question have him explain in detail to you why did the bleeding took place and if you can afford it then seek for a second opinion (another doc) just to be sure
