Actually ultrasounds are not considered completely harmless. They should be used when absolutely needed and you do have the right to turn them down. I didn't know this with my first and I believe his autism is a result of my ultrasounds.
Some things I've learned...only have an ultrasound done by an experienced and fully trained technician. Research shows that even doctors do a poor job with the ultrasound machine. The transducer should never be held in one place for long because studies show that superheats the fetus (and the brain).
I'd say if you have your u/s's done by a trained professional (not a doctor) you're at far less risk than if you have a physician or somebody else do your ultrasound. It's not necessarily the number of ultrasounds that cause any risk it's how each individual ultrasound is performed. Researchers are just now investigating the link between autism and ultrasounds so, for now at least, keep ultrasound use to a minimum :)

It depends on the situation. Since I had trouble getting pregnant and had to see a fertility specialist, I had several inter-vaginal sonograms for the first 8 weeks. Then, because I was 41, I had additional ones to make sure things were OK. I think normal ordinary pregnancies only have one at 13 weeks. If you want another, ask your OB. He might order one. Congratulations and good luck!

Insurance wont pay for many of them, usually about 2 unless there is a problem. I only had 2 done and I am so jealous of all the people that have cute pictures because mine look like a blob of nothing. I will get to see my baby in 2 or 3 weeks anyways so I am not worried about it. I would just say wait until the baby is born. They still don't know if they are good for the baby. I wouldn't risk it.

I think it depends on you insurance. I had two and that was it. I even asked my doctor if I was getting another one later in the pregnancy to see if the baby was ok and she said no because the last sonogram I had showed that al organs were in the right place and growing at the right rate. Good Luck.

A sonogram is a medical procedure and it's up to your doctor whether she needs another one. Of course you shouldn't get another one unless its medically necessary. Sonograms and dopplers subject your baby to high-frequencies, and while they are believed to be safe, its not good to do it too much or for no medical reason.

Theres no harm in an ultrasound. I had one at 4 weeks, 7 weeks, 9 weeks, 12 weeks and am scheduled for another at 20 weeks. Then I'm having a 3d one at 28 weeks. That will be six for me it does not hurt the fetus one bit. Enjoy watching your little baby move all around. :)

Insurance will not cover more than 2 ultrasounds unless there is a problem with the pregnancy.

I personally only got 1 at 20 weeks. If her insurance pays for it that's up to her.
