I was married 20 years and I have been living with my fiancee for 4 years and the only difference is the marriage certificate. I am his beneficiary and both our names are on the deed of the house. We have a "joint" bank account. My kids and Grandkids treat him as they would a father as well as his boys treat me as a parent. We have 3 children together (Daisy Duke, Socks and Spud...Jack Russells)

Living together-No commitment, free to just up and leave if you get mad.

Marriage-Commitment, not so easy to up and leave so you actually try to resolve a problem instead of just walking away.

I've been married for 15 years now. Wouldn't have it any other way. Met my wife in march of 1992, married june of 1992. Had our first child in july of 1993. Never lived with anyone, never wanted to.

The title and the sense of commitment. If you're just living together, there is nothing to say that you REALLY care and you want to spend the rest of your life with each other. With marriage, you are standing up infront of God (if you believe), your family, and your friends and saying that this person is the ONLY one for you.

Marriage = true committment

living together = lack of willingness to establish complete trust by having the ability to bail without a legal hassle if things don't always go YOUR way.

I guess its easier to walk away if you just live together You just take whats yours and go !! But if your married its not so easy You are then bound by who bought what who paid for whatever ? It is harder getting out of a relationship than a marriage

Morality, ceremony, legality (including legal protections in the event of breakkups), taxation, and commitment are the main differences. Similarities: shared living space, presumed mutual affection, shared expenses.

I've done both and I can tell you the biggest difference is that my wife's mail now has my last name on it. Other than that, everything is the same. And I wouldn't want it to change.
