I have noticed in Greece that I never see and mentally or physically handicapped children...Why is this? Are they hidden away? Do they not look after them like we do in the UK?

did u go 2 plenty of the places off the tourist track?
i ask that, coz greece makes most of their income, from tourists.
& knowing that people r people, some not all, find mentally/physically disabled r a reminder of their own mortality/weakness & they really don't want 2 come across it.
hardly holiday happy.
so i'm guessing it's there, they just go that extra effort 2 hide it away.
incidentally
i had a holiday in Poland.
i wasn't aware of the orphanages, children dumped at hospitals & the mentally ill chained 2 beds, but it was there.
they hide it from prying eyes.
i think the care 4 mentally ill is improving here in the UK, after a long over-due investment.
but our over-all care is failing.
just in-time 4 the height of a world-wide Visit Britain campaign.
& wonder what we will do.

u must have something 2 hide & that's when the problems start!
get it out in the open & there'd b less abuse.

I suspect its a more humane version of the situation in countries like Roumania. Hidden away in Institutions, relatives discouraged from visiting, neglected and unstimulated.
WE shouldn't be judgemental, this was the situation in the UK no more than one or two generation s ago.

Many societies do 'hide away' those whom they view as problem children. And adults, too.
The 'needy' children are everywhere. Every child needs...love, affection, support, etc.
