Since you mention htm files, I assume you want to know for the web (or something similar that doesn't allow spaces). Either works just as well. It's a matter of persional preference. Underscores look more like spaces, and with dashes you don't have to hit Shift first. I'd suggest just trying both and seeing which you like better. I tend to use underscores more myself, but I use dashes on occasion as well.

I prefer spaces. If not spaces, I prefer dashes. The reason is that, if you underline an underscored file name, you can't see the underscore.

I would prefer dash rather than underscore because, undescores are just irritating to look at some times....

How about a space? You can use spaces for file names. What looks more attractive?

Since Windows 95 we have been blessed with long file names. Take advantage of them!
