Because Every culture should have one not just African Americans.........and I am sorry but if there is only going to be one cultural history month it shouldnt go to the Africans it should go to the Native Americans.....Sure we enslaved the Africans, but we stole a freakin country from the Native Americans and almost killed them all.

We already have that, the problem is a lot of it is a lie. Later
you read the European version of history and find out that
George Washington fathered illegitmate children which was
never mentioned in the US history books. Also that Thomas
Jefferson molested slave women and fathered children. We
don't need another white history month. We have had enough
lies already. History is observed facts recorded. Publishing
lies is embarrassing to our country as Americans. If the job
had been done right the first time, including Africans, Native
Americans, Hispanics and other contributing ethnic groups
we may have had less problems today with this issue. Most
Jews and other ethnic groups have sat in class and endured
the biased bigotry of American History which really wasn't
Amercan, since it excluded most of the contributions of
other minorities. In fact there was a time when these groups
were not considered American. Only when war was at hand
that their support was needed, an example would be the
Windtalkers, group of Native American citizens that made a
major contribution to the preservations of our Unitied States,
or the Tuskeegee Airman to name a few. All of us have made
major contributions to have this great nation. Minority groups
have never disregarded the contributions that
Caucasion Americans have made to make this a free and
great nation, even with the lies included, yet there appears
to be a white element that continues to down play the benefits
this country has received from the hard work of people of color.

I have only heard people who are racist and ignorant say that.

I think what most intelligent people would prefer is american history classes that taught the whole story, and world history/ social studies textbooks that were written with at least a little imput from someone who isn't pasty white and upperclass.

BTW, Not a huge fan of black history month either - it's like putting a neon bandaid on a splinter. just go with me a minute.
more people will know that you're hurt, but the pain will still be there. it will probably get worse, because everyone thinks that you've been taken care of.

kinda seems like we should be doing better than that by now.

Because people pay little attention in history class so they don't realize that white history is taught all year round. Another problem is people spend to much time whining that there are "no months for other cultures", without actually looking into it. So if people are feeling slighted, then maybe they should get off of their butts and do something about it, until then they need to quit griping.

March 2007
Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

If there is a Black History Month, I don't see why we can't have a White History Month. However, we can't have a month for every race (there are, after all, only 12 months). To single out one race and give it one of its own for remembrance of its history is discriminatory to all the others, and that isn't fair. If people really want to learn about black history or white history, they can study it any day of the year. None of us need a particular month.

Actually, I think it just goes down to white people believing that they are being counted out with the recognition of Black History Month, so they feel that they should have one too (although, they did the same thing with afirmative action so go figure.)

Really, I think the only reason why the powers-that-be decided to acknowledge this month as Black History Month is because they felt it would act as a reparation for slavery and the death of Martin Luther King, Jr. and all of that other commercial, lying nonsense. Call me hateful, but February comes and goes past me and I don't even mention a day to my friends by saying "Hey, you know my people went through a lot of stuff to have this MONTH." It's racist as hell because what the society is basically saying is that blacks will have ONE MONTH for themselves and then it's back to business and back to their corners. It's sickening.

To end racism. See, if everyone was truly, and I do mean truly created equal, We would be able to celebrate every culture's history, not just those that we wronged. I'm not racist, but I truly believe that we DON'T have a white history month because our ancestors were a bunch of numbskulls who treated certain people very badly and they are ashamed of it. In this nation we are a melting pot of ethnic backgrounds. Therefore, we should all be treated equal and entitled to celebrate our heritage equally.

However, society and the need to bury certain wrongs have us running around trying to make things right. In doing so, we continue racism, by having "Black History Month". It's sad, but it's true. I don't see those of mexican heritage getting a "Mexican History Month", nor do I see the Muslims, Indians or any other culture for that matter getting a month designated to them either. Think about it logically all the way back to the settlers. They literally stole land from Indians and forced them on to small parcels not fit enough to grow a crop. And they did that for years. If you look now, aside from their ingenius idea with the casinos, many Native American's still suffer on their reservations. On top of that, we are still stealing from them, as we requrie hefty fees and taxes from their casinos. It's ridiculous, yet it is the way it is and nobody wants to take a stand to change it. So to simply say "I want a white history month" is only implying that the rest of the nation would like for things to truly be equal.

Why shouldn't white people get a white history month? What's good for one race is just as good for another!!

Being silly. NO there is no need for black history month other than the fact that non Europeans are not highlighted in regular history.

They are asking why are there things for blacks but nothing for whites...not realizing the damn country is for them OR not realizing that black history month started at a time when segregation was still fresh in the minds of all!!!!

America has a race problem and by continuing to separated based on race they are making everything worse.

LOL EVERY month is white history month! I don't remember learning about the goings on in the slave quarters on our dead presidents' plantations for finals! Yet we know down to the presidents' dogs name! And I had to learn that for finals!

Oh, and in response to Raminrobe (sorry if I spelled you wrong) other cultures DO have history months... However, i think that it's not as widespread/publicized as is Black History Month, and I guess that this is due to the fact that up till just recently, blacks were the nation's largest minority. But there is a lot of things that we don't hear about. Did you know that October is National Pizza Month?
