I heard that in some places they make you display special license plates if you get done for DUI, even after a ban. I know it doesn't happen where I am - anybody know where it does? I've got court on Friday for a DUI.

What happens if you have a car that you drive but isn't yours?

I think that the special plates for people who've had DUIs should ONLY be used as an option INSTEAD of jail time or a fine.
If you've had to pay or spend time in jail, they should not punish you a second time.

Well, one answerer said that Ohio does it, and I have never heard of it in any of the states I've lived in (New York, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Washington). In a state that does do that, if the car isn't yours, I don't think that they should be allowed to make it wear a special DUI plate.

Good luck in court. Back in the days when cars were made heavy and strong, you never heard of drunk driving accidents. It's now with these cheap pieces of aluminum foil--that in itself makes for accidents.

Good idea, but only for vehicular offenders- no child molestor and stuff like that. If you have served your sentence I think that those registries are too much, they breed a presumption of guilty even if the sentence has been served for future cases. We have Innocent until proven guilty for a reason.

But DUIs are different. Driving is a privilege. Remember that.

That's pretty lame. What about all the other offenders out there? Should child molesters have to have "Child Toucher" tattooed on their forehead?

If you don't have a car, then you can't put the plate on, right? They may say you can't drive any car that isn't yours though.

Next time, WISE UP and it won't be an issue.

if the court tells you no driveing any car ,,that means all, if this is your first offensence, your attorney might be able to get a reduced charge,,, but you must remember, that all states take drunk and driveing seriously,, as they should,, i have lost my brother to a drunk driver, and it is hard to accept, but i have forgiven the person that did this, and i want them to change their ways , this is terrible for both families involed... stand up and take responsibleability for this, and dont't do it again ...

good luck to you
god bless

I think that's a great idea. And as soon as I read that, I thought immediately of how they should have ones for sexual offenders, too.
