I'm not obessed as I used to be when I was younger. I guess i just don't have the time- less time on my hand these days. I think so many people are unhappy about their appearances because culture has such an emphesis on youth and looks these days, it is ever where. People feel they always have to do something to look better and they are always trying to achieve that goal.

Because attractive people have easier lives. They make friends easier, get promoted quicker, marry better, are loved better by others. It was not possible before to change one's appearance drastically, and less attractive could only bear with it.
Now it's possible to become more attractive with plastic surgery and things - people go for it to have easier lives.
Usually they do not change their appearance that much for the better - just look at the before and after photos of nose jobs. The changes are almost not noticeable, and it the same face. One can't change bone structure of the body, of the face... So, it's still minor changes.
After going through painful and costly surgery, a person looks at the mirror and thinks that nothing changed, she/he is still not overly attractive, maybe just slightly improved. So, he/she goes into the other round of surgery, hoping that now it will happen... Then another.. then another... And it's never stopped.

Everyone wants to sit and be beautiful.
People have an activity level for the 21st century. With a 19th century diet. Our life style warrants a 1500 cal./day diet. But Americans eat that much in one meal.

Another thing. People look in the mirror and only see what they don't like.

I would say that the media is a big influence on how people view themselves and others. It's unfortunate because people should be focusing on more important things in life. Most of the time, these celebrities don't even look good without makeup or airbrushing.

people are unhappy with their appearance for many different reasons because it is personal. to me i jus dont like my looks because i want to look a bit more like celebrities because they are influential to me and also..celebrities have a huge influence over young teenagers..which drives them to do insane things and go to heights in order to get money and go under the knife..them most common job for teenagers is a breast implants because they get influenced by models such as jordan..therefore no one is really happy of how they look..however i would say overall it could be just an obssession that teenagers go through because i dont find as many adults worrying alot about their appearance unless they are quite obese..its basically psychological related to how people are obssesed with their appearance.i think that people should accept their appearance and not go under the knife because it ruins their life expectancy and they'll regret it later in life because surgery is not permanent.

Please write a letter to your favorite advertising agency, video producer, film producer or tv producer. Americans are bombarded with images of "perfect" bodies, never mind how they got that way. Unless we raise our children to understand true beauty comes from the inside; we'll never get out of this conundrum.

We expect to age, but not show it - gravity takes it toll on more than your face. We need to learn to be comfortable in our own skins. I personally support Hanes new campaign with "real" women. In the US the average size is 14 not zero.

Because they want to look better. Some people are born genetically beautiful and slender or shapely while others are not. So they feel they have to change something about themselves to look better. Also people color their hair for a change same as haircuts.

Me? a little bit, and so many people are obsessed with their appearance because they're insecure about themselves.
