Accordian file numbered by day - put bills when you receive them in the number on the date they're due - for example, any bill due on the 10th of the month go in slot #10. Make a habit of sorting your mail right by it and go thru the file every day too.

The BEST thing to do is find a bank that offers online banking.
You can schedule your bills to paid automatically each month or manage the payment manually. Before using online banking, I was late on my bills often, and occasionally lost them. I had to have a complicated spreadsheet to try and track which I had paid, when they were due, etc. Now, all of that is handled by the online software.
Now, I have all of my regular bills scheduled to go out monthly for an 'average' amount. For example, I know that my gas bill averages about $40 a month and is due on or near the 20th, so, I have a regularly scheduled payment to the gas company for $40 on the 15th of each month. When bills arrive, if the amount is more than I have scheduled, I go online and make the adjustment, otherwise, I just let the scheduled go through as scheduled. Even if I lose a bill, a payment still gets mailed.
In fact, online banking really saved my a$$ after we had a tragedy in the family a couple of years ago. I didn't even look at my bills for several months, yet all of them continued to get paid because I had previously scheduled monthly payments on them. When I finally looked at my bills again, I hadn't missed a single payment.

Automatic bill-paying is your solution. But I will also add that you need to budget (so that you don't automatically set it up to deduct more than you're bringing in). And also it might be wise to cut down on some of the expenses. Here are a couple of useful links:

Divide them by pay days/due dates. Put them in the same place each time you receive them. Following a regime will help you budget, as well.

If you can, pay them as soon as you get them. Many places that send bills have an autopay option so you don't have to worry about paying on time.
