She only provided one quote and that was from a luxury dealer. I asked for her to provide one more and she declined. I thought that it was fair to ask for another, especially a non-dealer as long as if it was a reputable company and if they warranted their work. I would PREFER 3 quotes, 2 from other shops other than a dealerships. She is telling me that I can take the estimate from the dealership and that the other locations would give me a bid with that information. Obviously, any shop would req to see the vehicle before they make themselves liable for any work. What can I require her to provide me with legally? And do I have to provide a rental car? Any advice would be helpful here. Thank you!

And let me just say that the damage is not enough to file a claim with my insurance company.

This can get tricky......Insurance companies allow you to go to any place you want...Your insurance company should allow her the same privilage...Insurance companies will usually make an inspection and give you a price their adjuster and you settle on....If you are paying out of your pocket, you might pay a body shop to give you an estimate on site without her knowlege. ie: parked at work ect.
In that event invite her to small claims and present your lower estimate/s. I feel a court battle in the air.
You do have insurance don't you?
Good Luck

If you are at fault she has the right to take her car where it can be made "whole", or repaired to best possible condition. If you hit a high-end vehicle then she has the right to take to a high-end dealership to have it fixed, because they specialize in her vehicle. If she is trying to take Yugo to a Land Rover dealer then that is different.

I have two vehicles - one I will only have serviced the dealership because they specialize in that particualr vehicle, and one that I would be more comfortable with a regular mechanic/ body shop handling. If you hit my baby then you are going to pay to have my baby repaired at the dealership because no one else is getting their hands on it except for a dealer certified in that kind of car.

Next time - hit a cheaper car, and if you don't want the hassle then go through your insurance company.

if you caused the accident, then the person can have their car repaired any where they want to. within reason,,,, why not turn it over to your insurance company... when you pay for this make sure that you write on the check the invoice number on the repair order and write paid in full.. and you also need to prepare a release form to have them sign .
