Sure can. Walt wanted to create a place where he could play with his two daughters. Before Disneyland was built, the only places parents could take their children to play were similar to carnivals now a days. The parent would sit while the children played. Walt envisioned a place where the parents and the children could have fun together.
Disneyland was no easy feat. Walt had to borrow from financial institutions as well as from close personal friends and family. The Disneyland Park opened on Monday, July 18th, 1955. For the first 8-10 years or so, Walt tweaked a few things to make it the amazing park it is today. He wanted his park to be an illusion of another world. He didn't want trash trucks driving through or the public to see every day tasks. So he had that work done at night and through what Disney refers to as"back stage" areas. The attendance was also very low on Mondays and Tuesdays during that time period, so the park was only open Wed-Sunday until about the mid 1960s.

I can tell you the Main street USA and the buildings there are based off of the Main street of Marcelen Missouri. a small town where Walt spent a lot of his boy hood. There is also a strong tie to the Kansas City area and he attended High school in Kansas City for a short time. Walt wanted to create a magical place where adults and children could ride ride together and that would be a clean and safe place to have fun. He did not like the Fly by night carnivals and amusement things that would come into town and always had a dirty and sleezy feel to them. He was a family person

Disney land opened on July 17 1955

It took 20 years for this dream to come true. No one believed that it was possible and they all told Walt that it was not a good investment.
It was supposed to be an intimate little park where he could take his children
The Disneyland TV show on ABC is what made the park a reality. It started in the fall of 1954.

Here is a bit of trivia that alot of people don't know. I'm sure you've seen advertisement in magazines for watches. Have you ever wondered why the time is always 10:10? That's the exact time Walt Disney opened the gates for Disneyland back in 1950 something!!
