Yes, he is sacrificed. I saw both versions and the 1973 verison is the better one. Don't waste your money on the new one. I did and it just made me all the more infuriated at the end that a woman in this case had gone to the "city" and lured him by getting pregant with the daughter he was trying to save, only to find out they were all part of the plot to sacrifice him.

RE:
What happens at the end of the film "The Wicker Man" (2006)? Does Nicolas Cage die in a pagan sacrifice?
You see, I want to know if the ending is similar to the original version of this film--the one released in 1973. However, I'm not interested in seeing the remake. I heard it sucked bad.

I guess I never seen the original (even though I was around then), but yes, he dies inside a "wicker man", built by the islanders, as a sacrifice. I like Nicolas Cage's movies. I was sad to see that he died at the end.

Stick with the original, with Edward Woodward.
Whoever thought of doing a remake should be hung, drawn, and quartered.
It's worse than Gus Van Sants remake of Psycho.

It did suck bad. And while it didn't show him dying a hot, slow death it showed the huge Wicker Man on fire with him trapped at the top.

It does suck. Really bad. And yes he most certainly does die in the "wicker man". It was so ridiculously stupid we laughed at all of the so called intense parts.

Yes, he does die! It was the only time that I was convinced that he actually was in any danger at all! Up until that point in the movie, I felt that his acting sucked!

Yep, he's burned to a crisp. However, this flick isn't quite as terrible as a lot of people seem to think it is in my opinion.
