The same way a woman of ANY age does. Decide what you love to do and find a way to make it into a career. If that means going back to school, do it. If that means starting your own business, do it. Do what you love.
I recently had a mid life change of career from 18 years of mortgage banking to teaching. It means going back to school while working full time but it's what I love so it's worth it.

I recently attended a seminar where the speaker said something that really impacted me. He said that you can tell how resiliant someone is by the way they live the second half of their life. He is 67 years old and is now just starting a new career.
Age means nothing! Go for it girl!

It must have been hard on you to consider that working 13 years at a place and suddenly you have to leave....but then, I am sure you must have picked up a lot of things from this place of work, something that you could do probably not labor work, but some sort of a support service you could start on your own.....catering (lunch/breakfast, for people who are involved in the work that you did), baby-sitting.. (probably for children of your colleagues who are still at work), or in general a play school, which would not need much on the first instance. You could grow slowly, it may be tough, but it would be fun too to break from the routine of 13 years, and do something really different. And now is the time to think, your free to do what you like. Once you decide, and start in a small way, you could slowly apply into some education, diploma or something that you'd enjoy doing...

Start somewhere, thats the first step, start somewhere by first deciding what you want to do, then build your plans around it, like what you would need, how you would go about it, and what would be your profit at the end of the day....I am sure you must have picked up something in those long 13 years, and you know what are the things that are required for people who are involved in the work that you were doing....and if you really sit and think some good idea is sure to come...

And you know, not all the MBAs, Phds, are so successful in life, while successful people around the world are not all MBAs, Phds, doctors or engineers...it was the drive and the motivation that drove them to the top....believing in yourself is very important...and ...I believe your education is not the number of books you have covered and the years you wandered at school...its much more than that..its the experience that counts, your thought process, your way of handling situations....

good luck, have a great start !!

Sorry to hear that....at 46 you should now reward YOU by doing something that YOU are interested in doing...Why? Because then you will be passionate about it and you will enjoy what you are doing and not feel that it is a drudge fest.

By no education...you could mean you left at grade 8 or you could mean you left at mid grade 12 OR you don't have college or Univ. Whatever the scenario...you DO have education...you have life education. Real world experience in a number of things. So utilize that real world experience and take some time to figure out exactly who you are, what you want and how to get it.

Can you start a business of your own? Is there something that you do as a 'hobby' that could actually bring in an income? For instance, I had to leave my job of 10 years that I absolutely loved and fully expected to retire from many moons from then...but a vehicle accident changed that and I ended up unable to work. About 13 years later I finally found myself able to do some things that didn't cause pain...art..I also learned (on my own) that I was talented, or so they say. I took that and began doing portraits of people's pets on Italian Marble...then I moved to canvas and paper etc. Next, because I found I was so Artzy :) I decided to go into Web development and design as well.

So from your interests can come not only great satisfaction but great meaning, progress and income.

So take some time to get to know you...then gather up all the ideas you come up with about what you'd like to do (even if you have an interest in sales or fashion, or books whatever and you decide you'd like to work in one of those fields) you go for the things you know you'd love to do and once you do that and get going in it...the bliss will come along and you'll be enjoying yourself again.

No such thing as "my job was all I knew!"...it wasn't and isn't...there's far more in your favor than attempting to get back to a job like the one you had...explore, expand and expect broader horizons and future!

All the best, hope whatever you choose to do...works out exactly the way I know you can make it work...go for it!

If you know what you'd like to take, and if you can support yourself whole going to school, I would highly recommend that. You can apply for a grant to pay for schooling. And take out a student loan to pay for books and other expenses. You might call a Career Center near you and make an appointment to talk to someone about what's hot right now, and where to find more inspiration. Good luck.

I think a starting point would be to think about what career you would like i.e. care services, children's services, office work. Then look into qualifications needed. With some jobs you can train on the job and with others you might need to do a night course / part time course to get the qualifications needed which you can do whilst working in a temporary job.

You could become a Certified Nurses Aide, and work in a nursing home. The classes are 6 to 8 weeks long.

Find an on line service that can accurately measure your aptitude (natural ability). From those results, Identify your natural strength that best matches your personal interest - and go for it. The internet is an oasis for this process. Good luck.
