Unless your dad knew about this $1000 deadline for awhile and did nothing about it, otherwise, the lawyer will work some kind of installment plans to pay off every thing within specific time frame. Even the judge will not throw your dad into jail because of that, unless he all ready has a series of arrest in the past. It's a divorce case, no one will go to jail unless, someone got seriously hurt or your dad flees the state dragging you along. Then, your mom might report kidnapping, but that's all very unnecessary. I hope every thing will work out for you and your family. Be strong and finish school. Remember, there will always be someone out there in a much worse situation.

Find something to sell, get a loan.

Who told your dad he had to pay by Friday? That sounds pretty harsh and unlike a decree a judge would issue, knowing your dad didn't have the cash on hand. I would make sure that this is in writing from a judge or court order and not just something your mother said or a lawyer said.

Can't you take the bus to school or carpool with someone else? Lack of transpo is the lamest reason to drop out of school.

Just because he is arrested doesn't necessarily mean he loses his job or even spends the night in jail. They arrest him, arraign him and hopefully release him on OR, unless they are afraid he will flee or has a history of trouble with the law.

Or, even more likely, on Friday they will swear out an arrest warrant. But, that doesn't mean he'll actually be arrested. Cops in most cities are too busy to go track down every person with an arrest warrant because there are too many and most of them are no threat to society. But, if your father is pulled over for speeding he could get arrested then. In a few weeks he shoulud be able to come up with the money, the warrant gets withdrawn, all is ok.

Try not to worry about it too much.

I don't think you can go to jail for not having money. The lawyers can make a payment plan. But your dad will not go to jail for not having money. If that were true most of us would be in jail. Your moms lawyer can sue your father, but i don't think he will be sent to jail for not having the money to pay the attorney.

Pay the lawyer fees - or find out when visiting days are.

Possibly he could make payment arrangements. Good luck to you and your family.
