I have a Kirby also, I can't stand it, it would help a lot if your sister gave you the instruction book. I have a lot of attachments that I have never used. I know the belt dial is hard to turn, turn it all the way to red then back over to green. It will be hard to turn.

Kirby's are sort of like dinosaurs, but they're really good machines. To get the belt on, you have to take off the metal grill that goes over the brushes. Then hook the belt with the metal hook shapes piece on the machine and turn it for full traction. Put grill back on. Is difficult to explain without showing you how.

I have an old Kirby and they are pretty complicated. If you check on the Kirby website, you can get some information and possibly order an owner's handbook. They are great vacuums and really pick up the dirt so they are worth the trouble.

With the head off turn the belt knob thingy until it hooks the belt and stretches it as far as possible. Then put the head on and latch it. Now turn the belt knob down all the way till it's straight. That should get the belt on right.
