This one is risky, but worth it to me. If you wanna increase your cpu speed, google "Overclocking your CPU". It involves some pretty complicated stuff, so I suggest you get someone who knows what they are doing to do it for you. It is guranteed to speed up your cpu by 10% at least.

You can increase the clock speeds of your existing CPU by overclocking it with the motherboards bios or by software control. But be warned, overclocking requires extensive knowledge of computer components and bios tweaking. You can permanently damage your CPU making you unable to use your PC ever again. It is very risky to overclock and very expensive to buy water cooling parts. Cooling for CPU alone costs $150 and requires knowledge of knowing how to setup and modify your PC's case for that.

The best way to speed up your CPU is to remove unnecessary programs that are automatically started up when your system boots. Remove any background images on your desktop and close all programs that are not being used. You may also want to defrag your hard drive so it can speed up your CPU to access your data. Otherwise you will have to upgrade to a Dual Core CPU or a 64-Bit CPU to see any significant improvement in using your PC.

Fiddle with the clock speed and voltage in the BIOS settings.

It's called "overclocking." It can be risky, because the faster the CPU goes, and the more voltage you put into it, the hotter it gets. The hotter it gets, the more likely errors become, and it can actually damage the CPU. Without upgrading your cooling, you probably won't be able to increase speed enough to notice. There are some exceptions, some CPUs which are particularly well-suited to overclocking, but generally, if you want speed, you need good cooling.

Can't increase the speed of the cpu, you can improve performance by adding more memory.

You can try to overclock the cpu if your comfortable with that, not for the novice user. If interested go to www.overclockers.com
