the "cost of cool" for one kid at my high school was two very precious lives.
he was drinking to be "cool" and got in a car accident with another driver. he died, his passenger was hurt, and the person in the other car died.
there are many ways to be cool. and you can be cool in different ways in the eyes of different people. there will always be someone who thinks you are cool, and more than one someone who thinks you are not cool. it just depends on how you look at it.
to me, you are cool if you are happy with yourself. i can bet you that that kid was not happy with himself. people will notice if you are happy with yourself, and they will brand you as cool because of it. trust me i know.

For many people, fashion is very important, however, I know someone who has spent so much money on clothes and technology, that they can't even pay the rent. Is this really the extent we have to go to to be cool in the eyes of others?

The true cost of cool isn't in money spent. It's in how much of yourself you give up just to be cool.
When my six year old tells me he doesn't like his favorite movie anymore because the cool kids at school don't like it, that's a cost that can't be measured in dollars.

Priceless. Being popular means you have alot of eyes watching you. If you can be yourself and be cool too, great. If you have to try to be cool, forget about it and be yourself.

well it could mean alot of things depending on how desparate the person wants to be cool....they could hulmiluate themselves for a shot at popularity or work for it
