We house our rat in a large aquarium but she chews holes in the screen thats on top. We tried a plastic cage but she chewed that too. We tried a wire cage but the cat nocked it over injuring the rat. She has rat chew toys so I am not sure what to do. HELP PLEASE!!!

maybe you could put something nasty tasting or bitter like lemon juice on the screen so when she chews on it she wont like the taste....just make sure to put a lot on it so it will last....hope this helps!

She's probably bored, rats love climbing and she cant climb in a tank. If you can get your hands on a rat-friendly wire cage, You should get that instead. I have a big cage upstairs thats specifically for a rat, my cats couldnt knock it over if both of them worked at it together. Just get a cage with a heavy bottom, or put it in an area that your cat cant get to.

You can try making a top to the aquarium using chicken wire, or a stronger metal, it's still breathable, but hard to chew through

my rats cage has a lid that fits in the top of the tank. it's made of wood with the middle of it filled with wire. i hope you are not using a pine or cedar bedding as they release phenols that are toxic to rodents. if it is chewing to get out it may want more play time or social time.

Rodents need to chew to keep thier teeth from growing to long .Try putting some nuts in her cage with hard shells like hickory nuts

Set her free! We all just want to be free, right?Or you could make a top out of wood or metal and drill holes in it.
