A revolt against a national driver's license, begun in Maine last month, is quickly spreading to other states.

States must comply with the Real ID law by May 2008. If they do not, driver's licenses that fall short of Real ID standards cannot be used to board an airplane.

Which documents do i need to show to get it ? Where do i go ?

Don't give in. Stand strong and refuse to give in to this federal blackmail. This is not the purview of the federal government, it is a states issue. The govt has no business having access to your information, accounts, and whereabouts (the chips have GPS capabilities meaning you can be tracked anywhere in the world by that card). Don't be such a govt stooge!

Read the facts in the attached link.

As for "standing up" against it and the federal government "blackmailing" the states into doing things, it's like this: the individual states gave up their right to protest the directions and orders of the federal government on April 9, 1865. (That's the day that State's Rights died with the surrender of Lee to Grant, ending the War Between the States.) On that day the federal government's position on being able to dictate terms and directions to the individual states was pretty much carved in stone.

And when you get right down to it, the concept of a national ID card isn't a bad one at all. We already kinda have one; it's called a passport, but those are too easily forged. If having a national ID card will help protect us by keeping terrorists from either getting into the country or getting on a plane to blow it up, I'm all for it.

All you folks with the "Big Brother is watching!" attitude need to do a little less reading of George Orwell and a little more reading of your local newspaper.

Contact your state DMV to find out when the new requirements will be implemented. Apply for a passport, if you don't already have one.
