I am not surprised that you are facing this dilemma coz i personally have been through this too. friends are important in life and more easy to get along with coz u choose them urself, u don't choose ur family. But in the worst times of your life, it is typically your family that stands by your side and not your friends. I don't mean to say that friends abandon you at difficult times, but they have their own lives and there is only a point to which they can go to help you.Then again, sometimes some issues are very difficult to talk about with family. Friends seem to understand it more easily.
So I feel that both should be equally important in a person's life. It is up to the individual to make the trade-off between the two depending upon the situation at hand. like if you are having trouble with a colleague, a friend at work can be very helpful. But if you are having problems with your spouse, maybe your parents can give u the best advice.

This is a tough one to answer..
I come from a large family and we are all close, so family is more important. But some don't have a family like I do and the old saying "you can pick your friends but not your family" is very true in their case. Some of my friends have horrible family members, they do drugs and drink and lay around waiting on their government checks to come in because they are too lazy to earn an honest living. They have set very low standards for their kids. Showing them there are decent people in this world that do work and don't depend on artificial stimulation to exist in the human rat race has done them a world of good. I hear them saying all the time they wish they were in my family or how different life would be for them if not for our friendship. So I guess it would be an individual choice as to which would be more important, and neither would necessarily be wrong or right.

Both my friends and family are important to me~but if, your friend betrays you, you can always replace them. But how do you replace a family member (ie) a parent?..and knock on wood but if something bad was to happen, my family would be the first to be called before any of your friends. Family comes #1 before anything else.

Family helps you out when you need them so they are more important. Friends are also important in many different situations
