8 answers

1) multiply by 6
9a-5=4a
a=1, or B from the solutions

2) multiply by (x-2)
x-4=2x-4
x=0, or C from the solutions

1. Multiply both sides of the equation by 6, to give

9a-5=4a
9a-4a=5
5a=5
therefore a=1 (answer B)

2. Multiply both sides by x-2 to give

x-4 =2(x-2)
x-4= 2x-4
x-2x=0
-x=0
therefore x=0
answer C.

1. I assume it's written like
(3/2)a - 5/6 = (2/3)a
if so, multiply each factor by 6
9a - 5 = 4a
subtract 4a from both sides. add 5 both sides
5a = 5
a=1

2.
multiply both sides by (x-2)
(x-4) = 2(x-2)
expand
x-4 = 2x - 4
subtract x both sides, add 4 both sides
0=x

1 - B

mult by 6

9a - 5 = 4
9a =9
a = 1

2 - C

Mult through by (x-2)

(x-4) = 2x - 4
-4 = x - 4
0 = x

1. 3/2a - 5/6 = 2/3a

Assume you mean

1. 3a/2 - 5/6 = 2a/3

Clear the fractions by multiplying both sides by 6

9a - 5 = 4a
5a = 5
a = 1

2.
(x-4)
------------- = 2
(x-2)

Multiply both sides by (x - 2)

x - 4 = 2(x - 2)
x - 4 = 2x - 4
0 = x

1. 3/2a -5/6 = 2/3a

-5/6 = 2/3a - 3/2a
-5/6 = 4/6a - 9/6a
-5/6 = -5/6a
1 = a

The answer to No. 2 should be zero
