Insurance will cover it at a hospitpal but only if there are probelms seen with the baby during the normal ultrasound. My sister got one done with my niece and it was covered by insurance but they found a malformed section of the heart on the orginal ultrasound and needed to get a better look. Also, the one they do at the hostipal doesn't look anything like the one they show on tv and magazines. To get a good one done, you need to pay.

We got a video tape of an ultrasound when I was pregnant with our 1st child. While with no. 2 the tech. said that they do not give out videos anymore. Reason being, if the child is born with some sort of birth defect that was not foreseen, a video of the ultrasound could be used in a lawsuit against the MD. Don't know about other doctors, but that's the way it is with ours.

Unless your dr deems in medically necessary, 3d ultrasounds are not covered under insurance and hospitals don't generally do them. there is usually a business in town that performs the u/s. I had mine done and I loved it. It cost me $150 for the 3d u/s and a 30 min DVD of my little one

We went for our 20 week ultrasound yesterday. We didn't even ask for a 3D one, but the doctor went ahead and did it. It was really neat! We have just regular insurance, nothing special.

Well I guess it all depends on where you live, but in my area of Ontario (where ultra sounds are covered) you have to go to an outside agency for a 3D ultra sound. None of the hospitals in area offer them. And you have to pay for them. A 3D is an elective form of ultra sound and they are not cheap. They are also not to be used to see if there is anything wrong with the baby, so you have to look at it as is it worth the cost to you.

Nope..I tried... I went to a place in Boston to do it and they charged me $115.00 but it was SO worth it! If you do decide to pay for it and get it done, wait til youre 30-31 weeks...I did mine at 24 weeks because I couldn't wait and the baby didn't have baby didnt have hardly any fat on her yet and she didnt look as human like as she does in the ones I had done at 31 weeks. Good luck!

nothing is for free; sure that they may have to be a reason to document for insurance coverage
