I think most would tell you thery are Cypriots..and consider themselves more Greek than Turk (certainly demographics and referendum support that)

consider that there is archeological evidence of people living there since 10,000 BC - and since then has been colonized by Greeks, Myceans, Sea People, Byzantines, Egyptians, Persians and Romans - and that was just before 1000 AD!!

The Turkish Ottomans invaded Cypress in around 1500.

Most probably both. There is evidence that Cyprus was inhabited sometime 10000 BC. It makes sense that humans crossed from the nearest landmass which is minor asia 40 miles or the coast of what is today Syria 60 miles. Not to make the too Turks happy we should remind them that they came to the island 11500 years later through the ottoman occupation. Nevertheless all the legal citizens of Cyprus have every right to the country regardless when they arrived and we are all childern of Cyprus.

hehe nice question
First of allTurkey as we know was not known before 8th ac century cause Turkey is an Multyethnic country and Turkish tried come Europe cause they were pushed by Moggolians so Cuprus aint turkey
Seond Cyprus was a island crossroad for Europe and Asia so many people have conquered it all over the years
Messopotamians used to live in CYprus and it was conquered by Persian Empire
but i think that Greeks had relations with cuprus cause they used to take metal from there that why it is called cuprys from the word ciprus which means bronze
So we are talking about a country that was named by Greeks and was inhabited in a time when there were no Turks and it the ancient world was used by Greeks
I think that Cyprus was Greek after all

There was no syrians or turks in ancient times !

The arabs were living south of the saudi arabian dessert they came out of it after 900 AD

The turks were living in caves in central asia, just like animals, they came to the civilized world after 1200 AD

There is no clear evidence of the origin of the first cypriots (it's been 8000 years). We speculate that the first cypriots they may came from the shores of eastern mediterrean or the agean.

Dont make the mistake to consider them something like the turks or the syrians of today. turks and syrians came to these countries a couple of milleniums after.

There were many glorious civilizations in the eastern mediterrenean and we have proves that the ancient cypriots had relations with them. I don't understand why you just mention these two dirty countries. I quess you are from there and you want to feel good about yourself or you just hate greek cypriots and you wanna compare us with these two lower nations.

just remember that after the first inhabitans of cyprus, came the greeks and for 4000 thousand years now cyprus is greek.

many passed and many more will go but cyprus will always be greek.

Turks and Greeks.

Half of the Island is Turkish and the lower half is Greek. Both countries are still fighting over ownership but they're doing the fight civilly.
