you mean for window XP? If he's not the administrator then he might be able to change it by longing in as the administrator. This happen to me once. First you shut down the computer and then you restart it but you have to login in safe mode with networking. you can do this by holding F8 when the computer is restarting. It will ask you how you want to login. then the main screen will show up but all the icons would be bigger and when you normally login in there should be two icons one that says administrator and one that says your son's screename. Login as the adminitrator and go to control panel and look up where it speaks about diiferent accounts and there you should be able to change the password. Hope this works.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. The only way to reset your windows password 100% safe is to use a software called Reset Password Pro.
The software allows you to create a boot-disk, that can be made on a CD/DVD or USB stick. The boot-disk can then be inserted into any locked machine, and it's a simple case of pressing reset. Here is their official site: http://www.resetwindowspass.com

Yes - should be easy. Start the somputer in Safe Mode - (hold F8 when booting up). This will now show you the log in for the Admin account.
A lot of people do not set this up when configuring their machines, so try leaving the password blank, or try admin as the password. If you can get in as Admin, then go to User Accounts in COntrol Panel and get rid of the password on his account.
There are plenty of ways of getting around the password including lots of place in the Internet that will try to sell you software. My advice, let one of your son's ffreinds download some junk on his or her own machine and try it first - most are bogus.
You can also try this method:
http://pubs.logicalexpressions.com/Pub0009/LPMArticle.asp?ID=305 which may take a bit longer, but should work as well. You will need youd Windows CD key (usually found on the bottom of the laptop) to complete this. He will probably also need to run WIndows update a bunch of times to reinstall some of the updated Windows components.

I presume you are talking about getting back on the Internet.
He will need to call the site help line. That happened one time in my AOL. They just asked the security questions and then reset the password, gave it to me, then I accessed it and changed the password again.
Now if it is for his laptop, then you will need to call the manufacturer on that one. I know some have codes to access. They will tell you what you need to do. Next time buy him a laptop with thumbprint access. He will never forget his thumbprint now. lol

Is the password on Windows, or is it on the Bios of the computer?
If it is a Windows password I believe you can deactivate it through safe mode. To do that, when your computer is starting up, press F8. Choose "safe mode."
If it is in the bios, you will have to take the computer apart. There should be a bios reset switch on the motherboard.

There is a chance to recover with windows. There is a program out there that will recover your password on Windows XP if it is lost. I do not have the name with me but once I get it I will post.

Yes. If he set up his password...it prompted him to set up a password hint. Ususally if you mistype the password on a Windows OS, it will display a bubble saying "Forgot Your Password?"-or something of that nature. If it is on Windows XP then all you have to do is click the "?" button and it will display your password hint.
