Here in the USA you would need a CDL ( commercial drivers license ) and there are 3 different ones. A class "A" is the highest class which will allow you to drive anything with your endorsements, I have this class "A" with all my endorsements which allows me to haul anything from water to nuclear war heads and radio active material. A bus driver needs a class "B" license (that's a straight commercial truck) with a "P"(passenger) endorsement and I think "air brake" endorsement as well. Happy trails and keep the rubber side down.:)

If you passed your driving test before 98 you should be able to drive a bus up to 12tons GVW as long as it only has less than 15 seats. If you passed your test after 98 then you will have to check your license for eligibility.

As far as I know if you are not carrying fare paying passengers and it is taxed private you will only need a normal car license. Some motor homes are the size of coaches and they only require a normal license.

You dont need a HGV thats for lorrys, which someone suggested.
Positive you only need to get a PSV whether its for paying or private use. Oh yeah and you cert dont need your O licience (operators licience) just to take a bus round Europe.

If you are just using it for yourself and not taking fare paying passengers, you can drive it on a normal car licence, if you are not then you need a PSV licence, plus a operators licence
