In chem lab we did an experiment where we generated oxygen from hydrogen peroxide using manganese dioxide as the catalyst. We collected the gas in 5 bottles. In my chem lab report, I have to answer this question: "What is different about the composition of the first bottle of gas collected compared to the other four?" I was under the impression that they were all the same, so if someone would kindly explain it would be greatly appreciated.

The first one would have contained mostly air from the apparatus. The oxygen had to push the air out, so that you could start collecting actual oxygen!

If you do not use water displacement to collect the oxygen, then the first bottle has air in it. If you used water displacemet, the hose has air in it.
