The question is a bit vague. What do you mean by "steal" your business/idea?
I think it depends on what type of business you're in. If it is patentable technology then it is illegal to copy unless with your permission. If it is a new technique, then you cannot patent it; just be the first one to use it and be the best at it.
If you come up with a business idea that revolutionizes an industry then there is nothing you can do to stop other businesses from copying that idea. It also works the other way around. If a business comes up with a great idea, your business can copy that idea.
Take the example of Netflix and Blockbuster. Netflix came up with the revolutionary idea of mailing your dvd rentals. Blockbuster suffered heavy losses in the light of this new idea. Now, Blockbuster is offering the same service coupled with it's own brick and mortar retail stores. Netflix might be in trouble if they don't come up with something clever.
That's my take on it.

If it's a product, yes. Patent, copyright, etc. If just a type of business, as soon as you start making money, 10 more will open right around the corner.

It depends what it is and whether you can protect your Intellectual property - whether by patent if it is some kind of device or by trademark.
In any case it is human nature to copy good ideas - had you anything in particular in mind?

by law all u have to do to get ur own product is change someone else's idea by 10% and get it patented. so someone could copy your idea and just change a few things on it appearance wise and have a whole new product! sounds unfair huh?!

you need to get a patent once you have a patent pending no one can take you idea....if it is a company then you need INC. it.
there may be other things that you need to do as well, but these 2 i am pretty certain of.
