Right guys this continues from the topic: "Are BT Having Fun Regarding BT Home Hub?"

Well i got on the phone this time to sutomer services in the UK, and they gave me the number to the tech team up in newcastle to ring, which I did. The guy made me run speedtests AGAIN! and came up with the solution that someone was leaching my internet through wireless. So told me to use the ethernet cable so i did on both pc's and the speed was not that good but okish, i wasent have line drops or stand stills when browsing. My speedtest showed i was getting 3mb connection and they said they could only send a ADSL engineer if my line was @ 2.8mb 200 odd kb diffrence lol.

I'v been told to use the ethernet for a day and also change my wep key which I did, then i got fed up of the bt home hub and used my new netgear DG834 router and WN511B card. My speed doesnt seem to be droping much but its still very slow.

So i rang up BT asked to cancel my option 3 broadband, they told me no matter what i will have to pay for the remaining months till may 2008. Even if i was to cancel. Is that right? Do I have to pay them legally?

Would this mean I'm stuck with BT for a good time.

Hello,

(ANS) In terms of the BT contract you have, you need to read the small print i.e. the actual terms & conditions of what you have signed upto. You may find that BT have locked you into a lengthy contract which you were NOT fully aware of when you signed up?

**BT may be right you may have unwittingly signed up until 2008.

**The problem might NOT be with the actual BT kit (the home hub) this is definately a line issue, something like noise on the line or the noise levels going up & down on the line like a yoo yoo! fluctations in the noise levels on your phone line will definately either degrade the quality of the service i.e. DL speeds or result in random resync's with your exchange.

**You need to tackle BT about noise on your phone line & the line conditioning as this is the nature of the problem in my opinion.

TECH NOTE: Noise levels can be reduced by BT adjusting the "gain" on your line. Mine was tweaked by an engineer & since then my BB service has been excellent & stable.

**NOTE: if BT is acting as your ISP fine contact BT, but if your ISP's isnt BT you will have to contact your ISP's technical support and then get them to pass on the line problem to BT faults team. Oh!! dont expect them to fix it quickly 7-10days is normal for BT too do anything.

**The BT home hub is much more like a computer itself than just a normal router. HH is quite complex actually behined the bonnett, the complexity is hidden inorder to make it look simple & consumer friendly but its far from simple in reality.

**No! this is a line problem I'm confident.

Hope this helps?

Best Regards IR

BT will keep the contract. If they think that someone is pinching your bandwidth that is not a BT problem so they are providing the bandwidth as agreed.

Sorry, may be worth sticking with undoing the Wireless option and give that a go for a while. Connection speeds will vary depending on other users in your neighbourhood but you should still get 50:1 contention so therefore pretty quick speeds.

Routers are able to provide you a instantaneous connection yet you do not ought to apply it that way. surely routers make your information superhighway connection a lot extra shield vs plugging it immediately into the modem. anyhow, i visit make this so straight forward as i visit. you should have a modem it quite is plugged immediately into the wall. also you may have 2 cables, Ethernet and ADSL (they'll purely fit in a unmarried position proper so i visit't get into the version) you'll prefer to plug the ethernet cable into the numerous information superhighway port of the router. The ADSL cable (sounds like a telephone line) will flow yet another. i'm assuming that you've an ADSL connection. once you seem on the back of the router you'll see ports, a million, 2, 3 & 4 yet also see one off to the aspect that asserts something like information superhighway. Plug your modem into that socket. The cable that you'll choose is termed an Ethernet cable so in case you do not have it then you genuinely will prefer to purchase some. not too extreme priced. Now, take yet another ethernet cable and plug it into between the numbered ports. Which one does not count yet because you should flow in an orederly fasion position the cable into socket a million. the different end of this cable ought to flow the pc that you want to provide information superhighway to. you may be up and dealing today. in case you understood the above then ignore about this. that's what your community cabling ought to seem as if assuming that you've an ADSL connection. Wall > ASDL Cable > Modem > Ethernet Cable > Router significant Port > Router Port a million > pc wish that this became able that could also help you. once you've any extra questions, fireplace me an digital mail. good success. Regards, Max

with BT now its a 18month contract like most ISP's nowadays, you need to contact legal aid for advice, bt can and will cut your phone services off if you refuse to pay up, not all that much you can do now....sorry
