A few years ago, I told my husband that I could smell gas. He said it was musty smell because of the old carpet. A few days later, he went into the crawl space to do some repair. He came out screaming, "GAAAASSSSS! I smell GAAAASSSS!"
And so we got the leak fixed.

Last week, I asked him if he had changed the filter in the furnace of our new place, and if we shouldn't have a serviceman look it over. We don't know if the former owner ever had it serviced. He told me that it was a closed system, and they don't go bad.

This morning, he decided it was too cold in here. He called the serviceman. New filter, new striker, something reset inside thermostat. And he's bragging that he had a good idea to call for service. Sure is warm in here now!

Why is it that I don't know anything, and he does things when he thinks it best?

He sounds like a person who likes to be in controll and who hates to admit he's wrong. My hubby can be like that too, he's always right and others are wrong but when he realize that he was wrong and someone was right he very wants to admit it he'll say that what I said or I was gonna say.

Because he is a man, and he could. I have been married for 26 years! In addition, he is barely paying attention now when I say something is wrong with the car or the house, Good Luck!

Because a lot of men have been raised to think that women don't know anything especially about thingsa like furnaces etc.

I think he has low self esteem. He seems to feel if you have a point well taken that it in some way diminishes him to acknowledge you. I don't think knocking him down will resolve that problem. I do think complimenting him when he does things well and talking to him about giving you credit for what you do well would help.

Your husband sounds like a real winner. From now on, just do what's in your gut feeling and then tell him about it later. He doesn't know what he's doing and could have killed you both times!!!

For the SAME reasons women never listen to anything their husbands say.

Ego. I think you have to 'act the damsel in distress' in such cases. Acting like 'I told you so' will only make him not want to fix anything, care about anything...cuz youre so damn smart. Ego.
Peace

Probably a "control" issue. Find a situation where you can prove him wrong, right in front of him and address it directly.
