For me the best is coffee with powdered creamer; something in that powdered creamer makes my throat feel better.
I was not a coffe drinker until I discovered this; I will quit someday (but not today).

I suggest trying peppermint or other teas with mint in them. The straight peppermint has a numbing effect. I lived on mint tea when I had mono. You may also try Cepecol or N'ice lozenges as both brands contain numbing agents. Chloraseptic can offer temporary relief. Also honey and lemon in hot water. As suggested before gargling with a warm water and salt solution can offer some releif and help you get over the cold. Be carful when using products that numb your throat and vocal chords because they can make you forget your vocal chords are tender. Try not to speak unless you have to to help your healing process and avoid doing any damage. Always remember that if you don't get better in a week to ten days to consult a doctor.

Grate a half inch piece of ginger. Put it in a pan with about 3 cups of water.
Add some peppercorns. say 5 to 7.
3 cloves and a piece of cinnamon.
11 Basil leaves. Keep boiling till water reduces to half.
Add honey and sip the warm water time to time.
You can make extra store this liquid in the frig too.
just warm and sip after adding honey to lessen the sharpness.
Wish you a speedy recovery.

Ohh, poor thing, my kids are both down with sore throats at the moment. Try putting about a tablespoon of honey in about 2 inches of hot water in a mug, then top up with pure/tap water and squeeze juice of 1/4 lemon into it. Stir and sip slowly, mmmmmmmmm yummy.

PEACE & GOOD HEALTH

Put 1 T of cider vinegar and 2 t honey in a mug. Fill with boiling water and stir (adjust honey if you want it sweeter) I know this sounds awful but it truly does work! Feel better soon.
