MY current PC RAM is 256mb DDR PC2700 Samsung, I have checked with www.crucial.com that my pc has one empty slot in which I may insert a DDR PC2700/PC3200 RAM to increase its performance, but one slot can only take 512mb. So I am about to purchase a new 512mb DDR PC2700 or PC3200 RAM, if I buy one from a different make like Kingston, will this affect my pc performance, or even not work? or does this not make a difference?

So, has there been any cases of RAM not working because of different makes? I will stick with 2700 then.

yes, you certainly can have memory from different makes.. my PC does.... but they have to be the same frequency.

since you have a 256mb DDR PC2700, you have to buy the Kingston 512 DDR PC2700 as well, so as to not toast the other RAM...

pc2700=333mhz while pc3200=400mhz... this just means faster data transfer rates... but if you buy 512 more ram, you would have a total of 768mb of ram... that is ample, even with a slightly smaller frequency level..

768mb at 333mhz is better off than 512mb at 400mhz...

No, it should work. RAM is RAM as long as it is the same type. You mixing DDR PC2700/PC3200 RAM from different makes will not have any ill side effects.

this depends on motherboard. Most motherboards will accept RAM from different manufacturers but some will not. You can call your tech support and ask or you can just buy the RAM and send it back if i doesnt work. Also if you have PC2700 then you should get that to increase your chances of compatability. hope i helped.

different manufacturers won't make a difference but the speeds will. stick with PC2700.

If the memories have the same performance the name wont matter. Problem appears when one is faster then the other..
