we were trying to imput sound from a PA into a laptop, as soon as it was pluged in to the computer, it crashed and then there was no sound either input or output from the laptop. Any ideas what to do?

Wait, you were trying to input sound from the PA to the laptop? I dont see how that is possible, unless your laptop is being used as a recording tool. You would need to install a recording program, and isntall drivers for all the sound equipment your using.

I agree with the other poster, could have been a voltage spike. Also you could have blown the speakers or sound card chip if there was to much output from the PA System.

This is something that should never have been done without research and the proper equipment, even then I doubt I would never put the output from a PA system directly to the input of a laptop.
