That means you need to lube your cable underneath your car. You will see it running from your transmission to your firewall. Spray it with plenty of lube and then move your handle from park through all the gears, over and over about 3-4 times.

My guess without seeing it would be something to do with the BTSI sensor located in your center console or near your steering column depending what it has. Another cause could be the brake switch which sends the signal to the BTSI. Either way, sounds like something in the shift lock system. GM uses a lock system to prevent the shifter from being moved unless the key is in the on position and the brake pedal depressed for safety. Good luck

sounds like btsi to me. The next time you have the problem, set the parking brake, and as you are turning the key from off to on try shifting it into gear, then start the car in neutral, disengage parking brake and drive. You could also try removing the turn b/u fuse and try to run normally just to test(it works this way in my 96 truck, might be wired the same on a car)

1 of 3 reasons i can think of ....... 1 . make sure u are firmly pressing on brake pedal before taking out of park , 2. if car is parked on a hill, slope , of anykind , make sure u apply parking break before putting transmission in park ( its hard on the tran. to hold a car on a hill by itself and can be very hard to take out of park ) , 3. or there is transmission linkage damage

Parking on a hill?
Set the parking brake BEFORE you put it in park.
Then take it out of park before releasing the parking brake.

Whenever I have this problem, my car is either jambed up against one of those tire bumpers in parking lots, or I am parked on a steep hill. Does this apply to you? if not, I think you have a serious tranny problem......

you need to get your transmission checked as soon as possible as mine started slipping but lucikliy it went out in front of my house otherwise I would have been really hurt. don't wait as the longer you wait the rest of the transmission gets worse over time. all my gears got messed up as I waited to long to do something about it. remember it's your safety so start calling about the car and let them know what's going on.

it might have everything to do with the tranny fluid--check to make sure you're not low or completely empty or leaking.
You might have to have the tranny rebuilt--maybe the splines are bent. Could be an easy fix (fluid) or an expensive one (new tran).
Good luck
