What about inviting him to a special weekend away for both of you?
By the sound of it, I'd make it reasonably low key if I was you,,,perhaps not jet him to Paris for the weekend?!,,, but then again,,, if you could manage it, why not?!
Maybe something like that might be far out enough for him to go with the flow, with good grace.
All he has to do is be with you and as it isn't "just" for him, perhaps he might be a little more gracious,,,, knowing it would give you pleasure as well.
I am like your husband I must admit,I don't really hold with enforced gift giving, just because of a given day.
It can be a bit overwhelming and if some-one isn't comfortable with the idea or feels guilty for not wanting to return the favour, then they can become tetchy (I can be like that) about the whole thing.
If I see something that I think a person I care about might like, I get it, not just because it's thier birthday, or it's xmas, anniversary...
Hope you have a nice "sappy" Valentines day.....

I am in the same boat, I have a relationship where the male part really doesn't like my enthusiam for Valentines, but I've decided to throw it out this year. We are taking a day that we both pick and simply doing something that is not in our normal schedules. No cards, no gifts, but an evening with no kids, that we spend at a resturant that we have been dying to try, but haven't gotten the chance to do yet. I think for people who hate the holiday make a compromise you'd be surprised what you can come up with.

I wonder why this hubby of yours doesnt like Valentines Day , (Maybe a traumatic incident in the past?). Anyways if he's not into Valentines Day try and not do anything too obvious like a card or gift. Instead make him a really nice dinner or treat him out to dinner.
I'm sorry to hear he's not that in to Valentines day, that sucks. My boyfriend loves Valentines Day. This year we're going to Las Vegas and he's paying for the whole trip (Airfare, hotel the works)

Well, first I'd say don't make a big deal that it is Valentine's Day. Do it subtly. Wear something nice for him, make his favorite dinner, let him watch his favorite movie,(even if you've seen it a hundred times), give him a back massage or a foot massage, buy him his favorite beverage and just thank him for being your husband by maybe writing him a note, but nothing mushy. I can't see where he'd think that was sappy or overly romantic. Just thoughtful.

If he got angry because of a card, then why was it you married him? Not my business though. Don't get him anything. Show up on V-day in lingere with a 12 pack. Maybe he'll come around next year. Otherwise, go out with your friends and leave him sitting at home. Tell him, " If you won't celebrate V-day, then I will on my own".

Do something practical, that he can use. Tickets for a sports event, a gift certificate for an oil change/tire rotation, a nice homemade meal, his favorite items on the menu.

if hes not too keen on the whole Vday thing like myself try what my wife did. Last year she got me a "thinking of You" card about three days before Vday. inside she placed three coupons. One said Sex whereever, whenever, BJ whereever whenever, and the last said Wild Card. I loved the idea. if hes anything like me he will be ecstatic. Besides that, it adds a little somethin else to the sex side of the marriage.

well, you can always celebrate vday without buying him anything. maybe have a hearty steak dinner ready for him when he gets home and dress in a revealing outfit that he would like. tell him that your gift to him is that he can do what he wants with you that night.

Yeah, he needs to get over it! If he's going to get mad, I say get him NOTHING! If you still feel like you have to, you could make him his favorite thing for dinner.
