It took 40 years for me to realize the feelings I was having was because I was a lesbian. I lived in denial for a long time. My question is how do you approach someone you are attracted to if you don't know if they are a lesbian or not?

Try to get to know them fairly well first--it will become apparent.

I'm straight, but assume that honesty is the best policy no matter what your sexual orientation is... I think what I would do is be honest about myself, and somehow work it into the conversation and see how the person reacts. If they act shocked or change the subject immediately, probably you need to move on as far as prospects. Strangely, I have heard that there is such a thing as "radar" and that people with the same orientation seem to somehow "know" when the person is "approachable" on the subject.

thats hard. After having a good conversation keep coming closer and try to kiss her.. if she does nothing shes a lesbian.. if she says no or somethin shes not.. I guess a way to meet a lesbian would be a online dating service?

Just do tactfully say I'm attracted to you to this woman. She will say that's inter resting but I'm not Lezzie. Or she may look at you like you just dropped from space and freak out. Just do it in a good way when you ask someone out. Take a chance and tell her.

This really is a tough one... I usually just drop teasing hints... maybe ask them about their "boyfriend" or just ask them if they want to hang out sometime. You have to get to know someone first, you can't just ask "hey are you a lesbian, because I totally dig you" lol. You also don't want to be someones "science project" so just lay back, and see what happens... get to know her! Good luck babe! Dixiexccoach05@aol.com

You can go up to her and just strike up a convo, and see where it leads. but dont push yourself on her. you should be able to decide if she is gay or not by the convo. and during the convo slip in there something about gay rights and how she feels.
Or just come out and ask her but I think that may come off as being rude..

I would ask her out for lunch or dinner and get to know the woman better and if she is intrested, she'll let you know. And then just go with the flow.

ask her if she's ever had attraction to other women
say you hear about it all the time on tv
if she says no and you want to remain "in the Closet" say me either
