I lived in Wales for 10 years and in January 1982 we got completely snowed in. I mean snowed in! The snow came 3/4 way up our back door and we could not even step outside! We hadn't been used to living in the countryside so we weren't at all prepared. Our calor gas for the cooker ran out so we put pies into the breville toaster ha! On the third day my husband and the next door neighbour walked a mile to get more gas and bread, they were gone ages...when they came back their faces were purple with cold!
So now, the snow here in the city just seems daft....all the transport breaking down...snow on the line etc. I bet the news tomorrow is full of the dreadful snow across London!

I don't panic but I do get wound up when everything grinds to a halt. I loved 1984 - my neighbours filled my porch with a giant snowman and I couldn;t even get out of my house. Here in Portsmouth UK everything comes to a halt. Except for me running around making snow angels and having snowball fights with any one who thinks they are hard enough - Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

We have so many different kinds of weather in dear old England that we are always surprised at what we do get. It gives us something that no other place has really - something to talk about!

less people and less cars back then. Not to mention schools and businesses all closed instead of forcing people to work.
