Not running in your dreams may represent being stuck or immobilized...But it all depends on the context of the dream...How you were feeling in the dream--what else was going on, etc...why couldn't you run? Did you have legs? Were they stuck together? Were you in a wheelchair? Was someone preventing you from running?...Were you scared to run? All these can give you clues about what may be happening in your personal life...
Good Luck

i think it depends more so on the dream that you are having and how your emotions and mental state of mind are. I have had some dreams where i try to run but i go in slow motion. Then i have other dreams where i run just fine. Same thing happens if i fight in a dream some times i fight just fine and other times it's really slow but everything else seems to be going at the correct speed. i have never heard any professional opinions on it though.

During REM sleep, a dream seems real because the brain is issuing commands to the muscles to enact the action which is depicted in the dream; from the perspective of those parts of the brain, the dream scenario is happening physically. Obviously we would be endangered if we walked and ran in our sleep (with eyes closed and no sensory input from the physical world). To protect us, the brain paralyzes most muscles so that they cannot respond to the commands; this condition is described medically as a "profound loss of muscle tone."

Who told you that you weren't capable of running in your dreams. I have dreams all the time where I'm running, walking, talking, fighting, and jumping. As a matter of fact when I do these things in my dreams I will do actually do the motion while I'm asleep. I have to take a medication for this. My doctors did a sleep study on me and they told me that I act out my dreams. My husband completely agreed. He says I have woke him up kicking, punching, and digging into his back while asleep. So, whoever gave you this information needs to do better research on this.

Hmm, interesting. I walk, run, fly, jump, speak, touch and feel in dreams.
My dreams are very vivid, always have been - perhaps given the situation, you are in the middle of what is called "sleep paralysis"?

everyone dreams differently, so its hard to give an accurate response....
i'd guess that your mind tends to process information better when you are not running. so in your dream, you wont be able to run because your mind is processing the information from the past day.

can't run, walk or do anything normal as you do in reality in dream often means losing or out of control.
However if you have physical problem, that may affect your dream as well
